Sr. Network Engineer
|Must have Palo Alto Networks, Cisco ASA, and Financial Experience
Senior Network Engineer position for a Global Investment Bank in Midtown NY, with 15 offices and about 2000 end users. We are looking for someone from a similar size environment, and coming from the financial world: Investment Bank, Hedge Fund, or Private Equity etc. Initially this role will focus more on engineering and architecture then more on network operations. Responsible for switches, routers, firewalls, Palo Alto Network, IDS and ITS. Security experience would be a plus.
The Senior IT Network Engineer works as part of the Global IT team, providing leadership in network design, best practice, deployment, configuration and maintenance as part of a 24x7 global operation. The Senior IT Network Engineer will work closely with the infrastructure team to provide the highest level of guidance and support for the global network and security infrastructure including communicating, participating in, and documenting best practices for the general administration and management of network and security devices. A significant part of this senior position is ownership and understanding of our current standards, introducing and driving strategic improvements, and enforcing infrastructure standards across the network.
The Senior Network Engineer will communicate regularly with management, team members, and functional peers regarding the operational status of the networking environment. As a subject matter expert the candidate will work with teams across the globe to utilize his/her strong technical background and related experience to contribute to the department''s goals and vision.
The candidate should be a self starter with the maturity and experience to manage their time effectively. They should be able to work independently as well as with other team members. Some domestic and international travel may be required.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
•Providing technical leadership and expertise for the Firm’s network infrastructure design, ensuring scalability, stability, redundancy and best practices
•Global management and configuration of Cisco switching and routing environment
•Technical expertise for network and security appliances
•Subject matter expert for architecture and network designs related to new technologies, capacity management, and infrastructure best practices
•Maintaining production networks in accordance with the IT strategy and team SLAs
•Troubleshooting network and infrastructure related issues through to resolution
•Communicating resolutions to infrastructure and support teams
•Working within team and company procedures for maintenance windows and change controls
•Creating and maintaining network documentation and diagrams
•Assisting others in analyzing and resolving network problems
•Monitoring network performance and taking appropriate actions when required
•Performing routine network checks including packet captures and net flow analysis
•Project managing and/or operating as technical lead on IT Projects
•Implementing new infrastructure hardware for operations and special projects
•Leveraging technology to further advance our capabilities for efficiently managing the IT infrastructure
•Bachelor degree preferred
•Cisco Certification (CCNP/CCIE, CCDP/CCDE or equivalent)
•7+ years of network engineering and infrastructure support experience preferred
•Working knowledge of network infrastructure in a Financial Services environment preferred
•Working knowledge of ITIL and support best practices including Change, Incident, and Problem Management a plus

•Good understanding of layer 2 and layer 3 technologies
•Experience with Palo Alto Networks
•Experience with routing protocols: OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, etc...
•Experience with Cisco ASA Security appliances
•Thorough knowledge of Windows Architecture: Active Directory including DNS / DHCP / Sites & Subnets / Routing / Exchange / Windows Server
•Perform customer support related tasks and special projects as assigned by management
•Liaise inter departmentally to proactively seek resolutions to all issues reported
•Participate in client events, as appropriate (Firm events, on-site meetings, client training, etc.)
•Light Vendor interaction expected
