The Manager – Communications manages a variety of Corporate Communications projects ranging from social media, digital assets, influencer, media relations and advocacy relations as well as internal, corporate and brand communications. This individual works with the team to craft the corporate and public relations strategy in conjunction with external agency support. The Manager – Communications works with the Executive Director of Communication to develop and execute strategic communications programs targeted at patient communities, advocacy groups and employees. This individual collaborates with the Executive Director of Corporate Communications to develop and execute strategic communications programs that strengthen/ protect Acorda’s corporate reputation. *Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Advocacy Sets the strategy for patient advocacy relations in collaboration with key internal constituents Identifies, prioritizes and creates engagement plans for patient advocacy groups Implements and tracks annual gap assessment of educational needs for patients, families and caregivers Collaborates with advocacy organizations to create and execute initiatives that educate media, patients and general public about relevant health issues and enhance/protect the Company’s reputation among key audiences Maintains patient advocacy organization relationships on national and local level Creates and delivers patient-aimed communication materials in close cooperation with other members of the Communications team and Medical and Scientific affairs groups Serves as patient advocacy point person on the formal and informal internal cross-functional teams that are created to develop strategies and tactics for product-related issues and activities Monitors competitive landscape for corporate activities in the disease areas where we operate Media Conducts outreach to national, local, business and trade publications to highlight company or product news and events Drafts press releases, e-mail pitches, fact sheets and other materials as needed for external communications activities Internal Develops internal communications, talking points and other written materials for intranet/internal TV system Works with the Executive Director and EVP of Corporate Communications to develop communication strategies and plans to guide the creation, design and implementation of communication programs and vehicles specific to the needs of Acorda Effectively manages relationships with internal and external communication partners (Clinical, Field Force, Marketing, outside contractors, etc.). Ensures all communications are consistent and aligned with our corporate brand identity and strategic directions, business philosophies and general practices Social / Digital Engagement Develops social media engagement programs Collaborates with the Executive Director of Corporate Communications to build and foster influencer relationships in several segments, including those in the global health, e-patient and physician communities, neuroscience Creates and updates content on Company website as appropriate. Responds to Social Media inquiries Account Management Collaborates with other departments across the organization to develop Social Media/intranet posts and continue to increase and enhance Acorda digital footprint Provides oversight for external agencies Develops creative briefs, presentations Works with the Executive Director of Corporate Communications to define the scope of work documents, project plans and other internal/external communications Documents status and otherwise communicates need-to-know information to all project stakeholders; monitors scope creep and budgets, and drives progress Sets meetings, provides agendas and contacts reports Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations, public health, philanthropy or other communication-related field preferred Minimum of 5-10 years of experience with increasing responsibility in multiple communication roles in corporate or agency setting required 3+ years prior management experience preferred Specific Internal Communication, Advocacy, or Community Manager experience preferred Supervisory Responsibilities: None Qualifications: Design skills and use of Quark preferred Prior experience with Hootsuite, OpenQ, Tracx, Simply Measured and/or other moderation and other SM moderation/monitoring tools preferred Computer Skills: Must be proficient in MS Office Suite Other Skills and Abilities: Must have excellent verbal, written and communication skills Strong presentation and project management skills Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Demonstrated ability to deliver strategic counsel as well as tactical excellence in internal communications, executive communications and relationship management is a must Detailed knowledge of the biopharmaceutical industry, with an understanding of FDA regulations that impact advocacy and communications. Demonstrated ability to independently lead projects from start to finish with limited oversight from supervisor Ability to interact directly with internal and external stakeholders Experience in working with media, both proactively and reactively Track record of managing multiple responsibilities successfully and flexibility to work with multiple teams simultaneously Ability to manage both day-to-day operations as well as project work in a fast paced environment. This position requires minimal travel; average travel for this position is 10-15% with some variation based upon the demands of the business imperatives. This position requires attendance at activities and events in the evenings and on weekends.
