This position manages business unit relationships and communication with key media for Canon U.S.A. and oversees divisional PR support including analyst relations, new product announcements, product reviews, trade show and proactive/reactive media relations. He/she will develop, manage and conduct the day-to-day implementation of a strategic public relations plan which is in line with corporate goals/business objectives. The Sr. Manager will also establish and build a positive relationship with the media and public, and organize programs and events to maintain a favorable public image. Acts as a media contact for the organization and is responsible for creating, writing and distributing news releases, pitches, presentations and responding to requests for information from the media, analysts and other sources. This position will report directly to the Director of Internal and External Communications. Other Commonly Used Titles: PR Sr. Manager; Communications Sr. Manager; Media Relations Sr. Manager; Public Affairs Sr. Manager Responsibilities: Creates favorable public relations opportunities for B-to-B, B-to-C and Corporate initaitives. Announces new products to the public, provides all public relations activities which include managing direct reports to develop press releases, and represents Canon to the media and analyst community. Strategically develops PR plans that are in-line with business objectives, department goals and Company vision. Requires daily interaction with trade and consumer media, from the proactive pitching of product news to the coordination of press tours and press events. Improves return on investment from Public Relations agencies. Acts as a primary contact/client responsible for agency direction and performance relative to publicity and technology news. Works effectively to understand the needs of the sales groups and product divisions, and takes proactive measures to fulfill needs and help meet sales objectives. Coordinates divisional trade show activity and provides public relations expertise to all shows. Works in conjunction with marketing and sales personnel to ensure that activities are completed and Canon products are effectively presented. Strong emphasis on managing the PR team, which consists of eight professionals, providing strategic guidance and support through execution of projects. Monitors media coverage and promotes awareness and coverage of product awards to relevant constituencies. Budget development and management. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Communications or Marketing or equivalent experience required. Minimum of 12 years of experience in Public Relations or Communications for technical products in either a corporate or agency environment. Must be well-versed in dealing with national and trade press. Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities and meeting deadlines with excellent organizational skill and program/personnel management. Minimum of 5 years of management experience. Must be able to communicate technical information and product features, and recognize end-user trends. Position requires 25 percent travel.
