Description:DIRECTV Sports Networks LLC is seeking management oversight of a reconstituted regional sports network in Houston, TX. The home of the Houston Astros and Houston Rockets, the network will reach millions of households across five Southwestern states and deliver more than 250 live events each year. The existing network is in a chapter 11 bankruptcy proceeding in Houston. This position will become available if the plan of reorganization filed by the existing network is approved and goes effective. DIRECTV Sports Networks LLC now operates ROOT Sports branded regional sports networks in the Northwest, Pittsburgh and Rocky Mountain regions. Together with Houston, the four networks collectively would reach more than 12 million households across 23 states and own exclusive programming and distribution partnerships with more than 22 teams and conferences. DIRECTV Sports Networks is a controlled subsidiary of DIRECTV, the world’s most popular television service. Director of Marketing - ROOT SPORTS This position is responsible for marketing, communications, and public relations for the ROOT SPORTS™ regional sports network. The successful leader should be a creative and strategic thinker who can manage and own the communications and marketing business opportunities within the Southwest network. Critically important to the role is the ability to enhance and support the revenue generation and company growth through traditional and non-traditional revenue streams. Primary Responsibilities: Manage all aspects of internal and external communication for the region Direct and lead all public relations efforts Manage, inspire, support and develop regional marketing staff Manage all advertising and marketing for the region, ensuring that materials accurately and positively reflect the brand and identity Be a leader in working with other departments to create, develop and implement new opportunities for sponsorship, partnerships, and non-traditional revenue streams Oversee the development of concepts and materials for use by the ad sales and affiliate teams to ensure consistency in messaging for the region Analyze and manage all contractually guaranteed marketing elements as part of team or affiliate agreements Work with team, affiliate and sales partners on developing cross sales/promotional opportunities Responsible for brand building, integrity, promotion and oversight Collaborate with peers in other regions to establish best practices Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Sports Management or similar; or equivalent work experience 5 years of work experience in marketing, public relations, promotions or similar Prior work experience with a sports team and/or television station strongly preferred 3 years of managing and developing people Superior written and oral communication skills Passionate knowledge of regional sports teams both pro and collegiate Exhibit a professional demeanor that is highlighted in all communications, including written and verbal Strong business acumen, along with excellent project management, communication, teamwork and interpersonal skills Demonstrated excellence in writing for multiple platforms including idea conception Proven ability to work with all levels of individuals, both internally and externally, with professionalism and tact Outstanding organizational skills with a strong attention to detail and the ability to be flexible and adaptable in a team oriented environment Exhibit high energy and willingness to pitch in and help the larger team accomplish goals/work assignments Follow through on action items and keep the team informed of your progress Be proactive in proposing work assignments that will enhance the performance of the organization Experience with new media, multi-platform, and social media marketing disciplines Be resourceful and feel comfortable reaching out to other departments to complete assignments Highly proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point. Basic understanding of Illustrator and Photo Shop preferred. Ability to work overtime and odd hours in support of the department and partners as necessary
