Guggenheim Partners is seeking an exceptional senior public relations professional to oversee the continued development and active management of the Firm’s public relations activities. The Director of Public Relations will be responsible for supporting the global public relations efforts for Guggenheim Partners on both a corporate and business unit level. The goals of this individual are to protect and enhance Guggenheim’s brand and reputation, and to raise awareness of the firm’s unique capabilities and strengths, including its position as a global thought leader, among its key constituents and the public at large. This person will work closely with members of the Brand Marketing and Communications team, business unit leaders, senior management, as well as with the Company’s PR agency relationships, including its outside Senior PR Counsel, to develop approved communication strategies that thoughtfully address internal and external audiences in alignment with these goals. In this role, the Director of Public Relations will report to the Head of Brand Marketing and Communications and work closely with the Firm’s outside Senior PR Counsel and PR agency of record. The responsibilities include coordinating a strategic vision for PR, developing approved strategies and programs, and managing resources and activities to support their implementation. Specifically, this may include the following: evaluating media opportunities, helping to manage crisis communications, working with outside PR professionals on identifying and training internal media spokespeople, facilitating media interviews, overseeing the creation of press releases and other firm announcements, evaluating and facilitating conference speaking opportunities, working on relevant employee communications, summarizing and communicating PR-related activities to senior management, and performing other responsibilities as may reasonably be assigned from time to time. In addition, this person may be expected to lead and manage a small team of full-time Guggenheim professionals. A close working relationship with Guggenheim’s PR agency of record and outside Senior PR Counsel is an imperative. The Director of Public Relation position is located in New York. KEY RELATIONSHIPS: • Firm Management • Business Unit Leadership • Brand Marketing and Corporate Communications Team • Economic and Investment Research Team • Reporters, editors, bloggers, media influencers • Thought leaders in industry, government, academia, politics • Outside Senior PR Counsel (PR agency of record) and any other PR agencies and related external vendors SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: • Develop a thorough understanding of Guggenheim’s corporate and business positioning and activities • Develop, with the assistance of the Head of Brand Marketing and Communications and outside Senior PR Counsel, a deep and productive relationship with key stakeholders within the Firm (from Senior Management to business unit heads) to ensure proactive and timely responsive communication of Guggenheim’s position as a firm and business in the market • Provide advice, counsel, and active hands-on support to the firm’s designated public corporate and business-unit representatives with regard to public appearances, op-ed pieces, social media strategies, and other activities • Develop and execute a comprehensive public relations strategy for the firm • Serve as the primary, dedicated liaison between the firm and members of the media; work extensively with key reporters, editors, bloggers, and high profile influencers • Monitor industry news calendars, as well as market related news and events, to assess proactive opportunities for media outreach • Work with internal clients and PR agencies to assess incoming conference/speaking engagements and provide recommendations for high level speaking opportunities • Work with Brand Marketing & Communications on the development of external communications related to the firm and its activities (press releases, media pitches, briefings, etc.) • Analyze media coverage and develop effective reporting to business management on the impact of media relations SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: • 12+ years of communications experience with dynamic, high-profile companies, media organizations, and/or government agencies; prior experience within the financial services industry is highly desirable • Strong knowledge of and passion for the financial markets and the financial services industry • Proven media relations skills and a well developed network of relationships with top-tier, global financial and business media, both traditional and online • Proven writing skills and a strong track record of developing speeches, white papers, editorials, point papers, primers, press releases, blog posts, and other written content • Proven crisis management experience • Proven experience managing a team, both on site and remotely • Demonstrated ability to develop relationships of trust and confidence with demanding business leaders in a high-performance environment • Understanding of digital and social media, and the ability to keep pace with rapid changes in new technologies • Bachelor degree required, advanced degree a plus Other Key Characteristics include: • Strategic, proactive, innovative, and solutions oriented • Strong prioritization and multi-tasking skills • Learning-agile; adapts quickly to the constant evolution of the company and industry • Collaborative, energized by the open exchange of ideas CRITICAL COMPETENCIES FOR SUCCESS: • Media Relations: The Director of Public Relations will serve as the chief spokesperson and primary media contact for Guggenheim Partners, and will require highly developed media relations skills, combined with a powerful network of business and financial media relationships characterized by mutual respect, trust, and confidence. This executive must have the ability to articulate complex concepts, deliver compelling messaging, and generate innovative, industry-leading coverage of the firm, its businesses, and its successes. • Business Acumen / Intellect: The ability to assess media trends and other related events within the financial services industry will be required for success in this role. Additionally, the Director must have the gravitas and executive presence to serve as a credible advisor and counselor to Guggenheim’s high-performance leadership team, combined with a collaborative nature that fosters close working relationships with peers and colleagues throughout the firm. • Strategic Thinking: The Director of Public Relations will be a high-performing strategic thinker who thoughtfully anticipates likely events and plans for a variety of scenarios. This executive will design and execute an integrated communications strategy that powerfully articulates and promotes the firm’s media profile across print, broadcast, and social/digital media channels.
