Description:McNeil Healthcare LLC, a member of Johnson & Johnson's Family of Companies, is recruiting a Senior Director – Communication US OTC, located in Fort Washington, Pennsylvania. McNeil Consumer Healthcare Division of McNEIL-PPC, Inc markets a broad range of over-the-counter products, including TYLENOL® acetaminophen products, ZYRTEC® and BENADRYL® allergy medicines, IMODIUM® A-D anti-diarrheal, MOTRIN® IB and SUDAFED® nasal decongestants. Reporting to the Vice President, Communication, Johnson & Johnson, Consumer, North America, the Senior Director, US OTC Communication is responsible for the strategic planning, development and implementation of integrated internal and external communication and public affairs strategies to support the business objectives for McNeil Consumer Healthcare (US OTC). The leader will work on a daily basis with the President of McNeil Consumer Healthcare. The senior director acts as a strategic business partner and provides ongoing senior-level communication advice and counsel to the business and communication leaders and respective leadership teams. As a member of the McNeil Management Board (US OTC), this individual is responsible for the ongoing, proactive and thoughtful assessment of communication needs (internal and external), creative application of industry / business knowledge and trends, and cross-functional partnering to develop meaningful communication strategies for the US OTC business. In addition, this individual will serve on the North American J&J Consumer Communications Leadership Team. As a key member of this integrated team, the senior director will work closely with his/ her global communications colleagues and other business leaders to ensure tight alignment of all communications plans, messaging and deliverables to the J&J and J&J Consumer strategy and business objectives. The Senior Director will manage a team of 5 communication professionals. Core Functional Responsibilities Organizational/ Internal Communications: Understands business strategy. Leverages internal communication process to convey messages and influence employees to inform, engage and align: Leads organizational communications (across all US OTC sites: Fort Washington, PA, Lancaster PA, Las Piedras, Puerto Rico) that will help to drive cultural change and inspire employees to be part of a continued business turnaround and transformation. Partner with McNeil business leaders to develop and implement organizational/ internal communication strategy to drive strong employee engagement and understanding of key business priorities (strategic pillars) and Core Values. Uses strong skills in organizational communication to shape messages, create communication channels, develop strategic communication plans and provide insights and information at both the strategic and tactical levels, including materials development for town hall forums, internal portals, electronic newsletters and other channels of communication, as appropriate. Uses expertise in change management communication to coordinate multidisciplinary teams to minimize disruption and keep employees informed External Communications/ Media Relations: Understands the importance of maintaining a good corporate reputation and exhibits skill in interacting with news media regarding disclosure, business information, issues, products, and promotions: Support the McNeil President and other key leaders with strategic counsel and clear guidance on the impact of business decisions on McNeil’s reputation and on the broader reputation of J&J. Develops and/or enhances relationships with key media and acts as a spokesperson when necessary Demonstrates expertise in delivering messages on behalf of organization / business unit and coaching senior management while working with vendors / PR agencies (where applicable). Leads development of key messages and strategies surrounding complex and high-emotion issues Demonstrates advanced working knowledge and experience in leveraging emerging technologies and social media to advance communication and business goals Work closely with J&J Consumer Communication, Corporate Communication and Investor Relations to ensure message alignment Demonstrates expert judgment in critical decision making on issues impacting corporate reputation; is sought after as a trusted advisor Uses media training skills for executive, spokesperson, or other stakeholder coaching. Conducts media training independently or with professional media trainersPublic Relations/ Product and Market Knowledge: Understands the customer, product and market to effectively develop and deliver communications Exhibits expertise in strategic planning for a therapeutic area / product / disease state or franchise within the context of a portfolio and pipeline of products. Provides counsel to leadership on ways to communicate strategies and key messages Demonstrates expertise in creating and delivering PR campaigns/ messages that enhance US OTC’s various brand positioning. Ensures measurement of impact of PR initiatives Align PR plans with regional/ global PR plans and strategies, and foster sharing of best practices between markets Demonstrates expert awareness and analysis of competitive environment and information, anticipates potential trends and threats; guides business partners and team toward creation and implementation of successful strategies Demonstrates expertise in providing high-level direction for strategic communication to key customer groups; incorporates global thinking and understanding of business dynamics Public Affairs/ Health Care Environment: Demonstrates knowledge of health care environment and related legal, regulatory and policy requirements Demonstrates expertise in interpreting regulatory trends from a communication standpoint; is proactive in identifying points of change and opportunities to impact the regulatory environment; has expert skills in strategic communication Demonstrates thorough knowledge of the R&D process and scientific landscape (e.g., academic environment, key issues in research and science, industry context); foresees opportunities in internal and external communications and takes strategic steps to act on needs and requirements Exhibits expertise in strategic communication planning based on changes occurring at a health care industry policy level and acts on opportunities to impact the regulatory environment McNeil Management Board Accountabilities: Lead and inspire customer focus and the realization of our company mission Champion and role model behaviors that embody Our Credo and Core Values Lead the achievement of our pillar and financial goals through focus, alignment and accountability Own the matrix to achieve outcomes and build bridges so that all functions are aligned to achieving goals with the greatest sense of urgency Reduce bureaucracy, making sure there is a DRI for all meaningful tasks Inspire and engage individuals and teams Champion KISS (Keep it Simple and Sustainable) across the organization Ensure we develop a foundation of success for the future Act as team, demonstrating genuine support and trust of all board members. Ideally in Communications, Public Relations or related discipline. Masters or other advanced degree preferred, in related academic field of study is preferred. 10 years of experience in corporate communications, agency, NGO or related fields is required. Experience in healthcare preferred. Proven track record of delivering superior results and excellent counsel and influencing at a senior level required Strong record of external (media, social, public affairs and others), internal and issues management communications required. Strong active listening, business acumen and leadership skills required. Outstanding organization leadership is required to include people leadership and change management, particularly during periods of transformational change. A proven ability to execute and get results through leading others is required. Ability to foster team productivity and cohesiveness and to work collaboratively to influence in a complex, matrix environment with multiple, and demanding stakeholders is required. Ability to organize, prioritize and delegate a high volume workload is required. Demonstrated ability to make and influence difficult decisions in a timely fashion is required.
