This includes media outreach/response, leveraging community events for PR value, preparation of press materials/messaging and contributing to social media strategy, among other duties. This position will provide PR counsel/support to company executives as needed and appropriate. Responsibilities: - Contribute to the development and implementation of a comprehensive, cohesive annual PR plan(s) that aligns with key strategic priorities for each retail business, increasing visibility and enhancing the businesses’ external image among customers, prospects, media, key opinion leaders and decision makers nationally. - Contribute to strategy development and day-to-day implementation of proactive and reactive consumer, business and trade media outreach for NRG’s retail entities, mitigating issues/crises and serving as a liaison or spokesperson as needed. - Develop print and verbal communications for use with media, community or influencers. - Plan and manage public relations efforts around new product launches, especially consumer electronics. - Prepare press releases, talking points and Q&As for use with media, community or influencers. - Contribute to social media strategy and content. - Establish strong working partnerships with cross functional teams – including, but not limited to the brand, marketing, social media, sponsorship, community relations and internal communications teams – to ensure integrated, cohesive campaigns and initiatives - Be able to provide executive counsel and strategic recommendations to NRG Retail President and other senior leaders throughout the organization, as needed - Manage approved budgets and success metrics for assigned program areas - Collaborate closely with the broader Communications team to ensure aligned, consistent and coordinated processes, messaging, brand standards and programs - Manage external vendors, agencies, contractors and designers, as needed - Continually evaluate and recommend ways to enhance/leverage communications tools, resources and channels (traditional and digital) - Manage community and product launch PR events or campaigns, including logistics, messaging and executive support, as needed - Provide back-up support to PR director/media strategist and retail PR senior director, as needed - Other projects as assigned Qualifications: NRG Energy is committed to a drug and alcohol free workplace. Official description on file with Human Resources A bachelor’s degree and 10 or more years of relevant experience in consumer brand public relations or corporate communications; a mix of journalism and agency or corporate background is ideal. Energy industry and consumer brand experience/familiarity preferred. - Public relations experience in the consumer products and/or technology sectors, especially with new product launches. - Experience developing strategic communications plans to support functional/operational business objectives and priorities. - An accomplished leader with a successful track record of effectively managing, coaching and developing high-performing direct reports with varied experience levels. - Experience providing direct counsel and support to leaders in senior-most roles (C-suite, president, etc.). - Must be comfortable in and committed to both a strategic and tactical capacity, embracing NRG’s “Do, Manage, Lead” philosophy. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: - The candidate needs to be a dynamic, high-energy results-driven strategist and communicator. Proactive, creative problem-solver and quick learner with the ability to clearly “shape the message”. - Exceptional verbal and written communications skills, with the ability to interact with, counsel and inspire confidence among senior-level executives . - Strong social media skills – strategic and execution. - Excellent collaboration and diplomacy skills. - Detail-oriented, proven project manager who can simultaneously and successfully manage multiple projects, timelines and budgets. - Proven consumer media relations, event management and issues management experience and expertise ranging from emerging to well-established markets/brands. - Proven team mentor and manager.
