To increase the visibility and understanding of the Lighting solutions business in North America through the development and execution of corporate public relations and external communications initiatives. This will involve dealing with the media, industry analysts and other influencers, as well as senior Philips executives. To protect and enhance the image and reputation of Philips Lighting among its key publics: customers, consumers, employees, stakeholders and media. The successful post-holder will report to the Global Head of External Communications in Amsterdam with dotted line to the North American Marketing leader. The post holder will manage a PR (public relations) agency team and be supported by the external communications professionals in the Netherlands. Individual may, in time, assume functional leadership for Americas (Latin America/LATAM) Key Areas of Responsibility • Generate positive business/product/corporate news coverage among our target media outlets • Provide thought leadership and coordination with the public relations professionals within the US, Canada to ensure the region has the right mix of products and programs to build a strong editorial presence for the Lighting solutions business going forward • Oversight of NA public relations/news generating programs, from a strategic and operational viewpoint. • Provide functional advice for communications professionals in Canada and LATAM. • Serve as a leader, catalyst and resource for the NA Lighting solutions business in all matters dealing with the editorial media and industry analysts. • Write, edit and review all external communications for the NA Lighting solutions management, including crisis communications • Media relations support for trade shows Experience Bachelor’s degree in Business/Marketing/Communications/Journalism or equivalent combination of education and experience, plus 10 years in-house or PR (public relations) consultancy experience. Knowledge or experience in Lighting and high tech systems and services business models – strongly preferred. Understanding of high-tech industry (example = digital tech) is required. Proven track record in crisis communications and executive communications planning and implementation. Proven ability to manage internal and external agency resources, with specific experience in managing long-term agency/vendor relationships with multiple internal clients. Proven ability to effectively manage in high-pressure situations; ability to manage and implement multiple projects across geographies and business/product areas. Management experience is required. Must possess exceptional written and verbal communication skills as well as first-class media contacts (NY Times, Huffington Post, WSJ, Forbes, etc.). Travel required a few times a year including international. Must be comfortable with change and transformation.
