We are looking for a passionate and articulate Agile Practitioner and Project Manager for our New York City office. You will be responsible for helping the teams you serve select, implement and customize the most appropriate agile or project management methodologies. You will help clarify goals and requirements, foster transparency, clear obstacles, highlight risks and help create highly collaborative teams. You will orient your efforts toward delivering business value to our internal and external customers. The ideal candidate has deep experience as a traditional project manager and as a scrum master and is comfortable achieving results working through influence rather than direct control of teams. Team Description: At AppNexus, the Agile and Project Management team is composed of members who fulfill multiple roles. Depending on a project’s needs, our team members may take on the role of Scrum Master, Agile Coach, Project Manager, or a combination of the three. Role Responsibilities: Help teams select, implement and customize the most appropriate agile or project management methodologies Clarify goals and requirements Foster transparency by reporting actionable metrics and encouraging consistent use of JIRA and/or wallboards Clear obstacles for teammates Identify risks and identify and implement mitigation strategies Foster collaborative team dynamics Schedule and run team meetings Report status and risks to stakeholders Responsibilities Specifically Related To The Agile Role: Help teams select and adapt the most appropriate agile methodology Foster a sense of unity on teams with members from multiple departments: engineering, design, QA, documentation and product Run daily standup meetings and understand and remove obstacles Run sprint planning, release planning, sprint reviews and retrospectives Coach teams to properly define, slice and estimate workload Help teams commit to an appropriate amount of work per sprint Provide actionable analysis of burndowns, story points per FTE, velocity and other metrics as appropriate Responsibilities Specifically Related The Project Management Role: Help identify, document and clarify functional requirements and technical specifications Create Project Plans with a level of detail commensurate with projects’ complexity and stakeholder needs Help identify and manage resolution of open issues Create and/or coordinate documentation commensurate with projects’ complexity and stakeholder needs In some cases, track costs v. budget Requirements: At least 6 years of professional IT experience At least 2 years experience as a Scrum Master or Agile coach At least 2 years experience as a Project Manager BS/BA/MS Degree and 2 years experience Enthusiastic, high-energy, positive attitude Previous experience as a developer is also strongly preferred since this experience makes it easier to assist in breaking down work and in understanding obstacles in depth in order to represent developer’s needs when seeking resolution Excellent written and verbal communications skills Comfortable achieving results working through influence rather than direct control Understands the importance of sprint commitments and has demonstrated the ability to ensure that the team delivers consistently Understands when a project schedule is needed and why it is important to the success of a project Ability to facilitate and run effective, productive, engaging meetings Scrum Master Certification a plus What We Look For: You are passionate about and thrive in a culture of learning and teaching.
