General description

The Manufacturing Engineer designs lean manufacturing processes for customer quotations, prototypes, and long run, high volume production.  This individual will be required to participate or lead Advanced Product Quality Planning activities.  The Manufacturing Engineer also must be able to apply lean manufacturing techniques to improve the manufacturing process. 

Functions

• Apply lean principles to layout, analyze, and improve manufacturing processes.

• Create quotations that include manufacturing process, tooling and gaging, and piece price

• Works with various machine tool vendors that supply turning, spline forming, induction hardening, grinding, and hole making equipment.

• Integrates machine tools using automation.

• Designs or orders work holding and gaging

• Uses CAD to work with customer drawings, process documentation, process layouts.

• Creates and follow project timelines.

• Demonstrates leadership qualities by coordinating team efforts, achieving internal and external delivery requirements, and budgetary requirements.

• Performs other associated responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Must be experienced with various cutting tools such as tooling used in turning, drilling, and broaching operations.

• Must be experienced with various machine tool operations such as turning, spline forming, induction hardening, grinding, hole making, etc.

• Experience in using automation to integrate machine tools into a work cell.

• Experience with various methods of workholding and gaging

• Must have an understanding of accounting, financing, and economics.

• Knowledge of the automotive drivetrain is a plus.

• Advanced mathematical and statistical concepts or procedures such as trigonometry and statistical process control.

• Must know basic inspection and testing concepts.

• Must know how to read and interpret blueprints and GD & T information.

• Familiarity with the Advanced Product Quality Process

• In some instances travel will be required.

• Maintain a membership in SME or SAE and/or registration as a professional engineer.

• Must possess intermediate computer skills

• Must have background in automotive industry

Education

• Bachelor degree in Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering

Mathematical skills

• Advanced mathematical and statistical concepts or procedures such as trigonometry and statistical process control.
