Position Summary

The Database Administrator coordinates all aspects of database administration services in support customer facing services and business operations. This includes all database installation, tuning and maintenance activities; database backup and recovery planning and execution; supporting the health and performance of associated business applications; change management.

About the Position

Ensure availability and performance of the databases that support Kinnser online services and business operations (e.g. system monitoring, performance tuning, security, routine maintenance tasks, etc)
Create and perform database and system maintenance policy and procedures
Perform and document disaster recovery functions
Work with development team to coordinate new data development ensuring consistency and integration
Monitor the database systems and jobs to ensure minimum downtime
Troubleshoot SQL database performance issues
Work with other Database Administrators / Analysts to optimize all database objects, stored procedures, tables, views, triggers, indexes, user-defined functions and SSIS packages
Extensive knowledge of SQL internals (Data Architecture, DMVs, query plan analysis, Transactions and Concurrency, replication, etc.)
Knowledge of new features of SQL 2008 and backward compatibility issues
Perform other duties as assigned


Experience monitoring and tuning a database in high availability and high volume web-based environments
5-10 years Microsoft SQL Server experience
Strong IT operation experience with strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles, practices and security
Self-motivated and directed, with a high level of attention to detail
Good interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures in Information Technology and ability to establish guidelines
Detail oriented with excellent analytical skills
Ability to lead and/or act as part of a team in a customer-driven, fast-paced environment
Must be practical, dependable, reliable, courteous and prompt with a strong work ethic
Must be available for after-hour on call rotation schedule
HIPAA and Healthcare business practice knowledge is a plus
Practical experience with iSCSI/FC SANs is a plus
Knowledge of software development processes and web applications is a plus


Bachelor’s degree college or university or related experience and / or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
