ETL Developer

Required Skills for ETL Developer

· Experience developing HIPAA-standard transaction interfaces, including ASC X12N 5010

standard transactions or NCPDP D.0 standard transactions

· Familiarity with Electronic Data Interchange translation engine dynamics in a healthcare context,

including enforcement of rules from Implementation Guides and Companion Guides

· Familiarity with specifying and developing application actions, error handling, audit and logging

functions in a HIPAA transaction environment

· Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in computer science, mathematics, or

engineering or a mathematics-intensive discipline, or an applicable certificate of training from

an accredited institution

· Ten (10) or more years of intensive and progressive experience in a computer related field with

four years within the last eight calendar years of intensive and progressive experience in

performing ETL for complex and highly complex software/hardware applications and/or systems

Preferred Skills for ETL Developer

· Prior experience coding HIPAA transaction validation functions using Websphere Translation

Extender (WTX) adapters

· Prior experience extending HIPAA transaction validation leveraging deeper validations using

tools such as IBM Infosphere DataStage, Quality Stage and/or other methods

· Prior experience with HIPAA ASC X12N 837 and NCPDP Post Adjudicated Claim Data Reporting


Essential Job Functions for ETL Developer

· Works with Business Analysts to understand requirements for interface development

· Participates in design sessions to apply best practices for HIPAA transaction validation,

translation, and storage

· Participates in data mapping exercises in conformance with standard Implementation and

Companion Guides

· Performs detailed design, coding and unit testing of transaction validation rules conforming to

Implementation and Companion Guide rules

· Consults with testers on test case development

· Demonstrate good oral and written communication skills

· Participates in administrative activities as required, such as configuration management,

documentation of code, code reviews, defect analysis and/or repairs as appropriate
